Friday February 27-15:
Houses will meet at the clock tower for 7:00pm for a brief kickoff celebration for the 2014 Winter Carnival. No points will be awarded in this event, but Houses should have one member of each House prepared to hold the torch.
Each House must construct a banner with measurements not exceeding 2ft x 5ft. Material such as a bed sheet/curtain/paper etc. Choose a Disney theme and or movie for your banner that best relates to your House. All banners must be submitted by 6:15pm sharp in the UC food court. Presentations/ explanations will follow shortly thereafter. Order of presentations to be drawn. Banners will be displayed in the Breezeway for the Toonie concert.

Red and White “Toonie” Concert:
(19+) Each Residence will be given a sheet of paper of a specific color based on their House with the time they enter the premises written on it. Residents will be expected to return the paper to the specified personal after at least two hours spent at the Breezeway. One point for every 5% of 19+ residents will be awarded for a maximum of 10 points (alternate point scheme for the Towers will be voted on by Presidents). Cover will be $5 or a $2 and a donation of a non-perishable food item for the campus food bank (taken at door). Starts at 8pm. Men’s Basketball Game broadcast at 845pm. Theme is Red and White with music spanning the decades of 70’s-2000’s (Back to the Future style). Drink Specials, and entertainers TBA[10 points max]
Saturday February 28-15:
Polar Bear Dip:
Each House will send THREE dippers, one of which must be an Executive member, and TWO dryers to meet the coordinators at the MUNSU office by 7:45 AM. Busses will be leaving at 8 AM SHARP for Middlecove Beach. Towels and dry clothing are MANDATORY. First Aid forms will be completed by dippers prior to dipping. 1 point will be award to each dipper for a maximum of 3 points and 2 points for dryers. Any dangerous activity will result in a disqualification for the participant’s House for the entirety of Winter Carnival.
Houses should be at the soccer field located next to the Field House at 12:45pm.

Make a sled out of any material(s) in order to transport ONE person down the length of the marked course and back again by being pushed or pulled by TWO other house members. Sleds must be able to complete a turn around a provided pylon. (Weather permitting – makeup date: Saturday March 7th)[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
TWO people from each House will be taped together at 3 different places below the knee. Runners will be given two minutes to apply the tape before the sound of a horn. A second horn will indicate the start of the race. Runners must race down the length of the marked course, around a pylon and back again. If at any point one of the taped sections is to break during the race, that House is automatically disqualified.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
TWO people from each House will be given an egg to toss back and forth. Each tosser will take a step back after each toss. If the egg breaks the House will be eliminated. If the egg is not caught the House will be eliminated.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Co-ed Tug of War:
FIVE males and FIVE females will participate per House. The House that first pulls the rope past the marker wins. Tournament is double elimination. Zero tolerance for demeaning remarks/actions toward other Houses. No cleats are permitted.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Video Game Competition:
Gaming will start at 7:30pm in the boardroom. The game being played is: Super Smash Bros Melee. TWO players from each house will compete in a double elimination bracket. Each match will consist of a best of 3 games. [Each game will be a 8 minute survival with each player only having 4 lives. Stages banned from competitive play will not be played. 1st map selection will be chose by rock-paper-scissors (best 2 out of 3), 2nd map will go to the loser of the 1st game and 3rd map, if needed, to the winner of the 1st game. Controllers will be provided but if a player chooses to use their own controller, it must be verified by the coordinators and the judge of the event and must not provide an unfair advantage (ie. turbo buttons, lag switches, etc.)] –Smash Rules[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Sunday March 1-15:
Houses will meet at PE 2000 at 1:45pm. Events will be starting at 2:00pm SHARP. Any Houses with Residents off the bleachers during the events will be disqualified. This is especially relevant during Dodgeball.
THREE people per house (1 shooter, 2 passers). There will be three shooting spots marked. Shooters are allowed five shots at the net per spot, the fifth shot being a “money ball”.The first 4 balls are worth 1 point, the “money ball” is worth 2. In cases of equal points, a shoot-off will occur. No varsity players permitted.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
THREE people per House (1 shooter, 2 passers). Hockey sticks and 5 balls will be provided. Shooter gets 30 seconds to shoot the ball in the net from center court as many times as possible. Passers will retrieve the balls from the net and surrounding areas and return them to the shooter. In cases of equal, placing, scores a second match will take place.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Bump: Players will line up in a randomly selected order at the free throw line (one player per House). A player may not shoot until the player ahead of them has shot. No steps may be taken when holding a ball. A player may use their ball to “bump” a loose ball but NOT from the hands of a player. When chasing a ball a player must stop, and shoot, from where they catch the ball. Rough physical contact is not permitted and will result in elimination. Varsity players not permitted.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
THREE males and THREE females players per House. Each House will be permitted TWO “shaggers” and ONE “coach”. A total of 6 balls will be used. (Please see rules and regulations for further clarification)[1st – 10pts, 2nd – 7.5 pts, 3rd – 5 pts]
Monday March 2-15:

SIX people from each House prepare a presentation of no more than 8 minutes. See rubric for judging Criteria. 1 point will be deducted for every 10 seconds over the time limit. Each team will be allotted five minutes for set up and an additional five minutes for tear down – one point will be deducted for every 10 seconds over these time limits. Additional members may aid in set up and take down.[1st – 15pts, 2nd – 11 pts, 3rd – 7 pts]
Whose Points is it Anyways?:
ONE person will represent each House in a comedic improvisation show. There will be a total of 3 games that will be played. Each round players will be divided into random groups, with the funniest members moving on to the next round (total 3 rounds for 3 games). Adult humor is permitted but should be kept University appropriate (at Judge’s discretion). See rules and regulations for further clarification and rubric for judging criteria. Tuesday March 3-15:
All Houses will meet at the UC in the food court at 6:45pm. Games will start at 7:00pm SHARP. Houses that miss any scheduled game will be disqualified from that game. Poker starts at 530pm SHARP in the Breezeway Lounge. All matches and seating orders will be randomly determined.
THREE people per House will answer 50 questions covering various topics. Answer sheets will be submitted to determine first, second and third place winners. Cell phones are NOT permitted and Houses found using them will be disqualified from the event. 19+ event.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
ONE person from each House will play chess using standard rules (see links). Single elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
ONE person from each House will play checkers using standard rules (see below in rules and regulations for further clarification). Single elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
TWO people from each House will play cribbage using standard rules (see below in rules and regulations). Best 2 out of 3, single elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Poker: Starts at 5:30pm in the VIP lounge in the Breezeway
ONE person from each House will play No Limit Texas Hold’em poker using standard rules (see below in rules and regulations for further clarification). Single elimination. 19+ event.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
TWO people from each House will play pool using BCA rules (see below in rules and regulations). Competition will be a Round Robin style tournament.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
TWO people from each House will play darts (501) using standard rules (see below in rules and regulations). Single elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
“Beer Pong”: TWO people per House. Drinking beer is not required. 19+ event. Breezeway rules apply (please see rules and regulations for further clarification). Double elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]
Air Hockey :
ONE person per House. Games will go to 7 goals. Mallets cannot be lifted during play to stop the puck, players doing this will first be issued a warning, then a one goal penalty for each additional time. Pucks that fly off the table will go to the side where the puck was headed towards. Single elimination.[1st – 5pts, 2nd – 2.5 pts, 3rd – 1 pt]

Wednesday March 4-15:
Febuhairy – March 4th – 2015: Two ways to earn points
- Febuhairy fundraising: One point per $100 raised for a maximum of five points per house. (Money can be raised collectively but MUST be registered and donated under individual names. Ie Doyle raises $500 but registers Dave, Olivia, Yvonne, Lisa and Evan with $100 under each name).
2. Physical Participation: The finale takes place at the landing in the UC. 1 point per person that has an area waxed or shaved off for a maximum of five points. Starts at
Wing N’ It – So You Think You Can Handle the Heat Challenge
One person per House for this event. Meet at the UC Landing for 7pm Sharp. This event will be in heats of 2 minutes per flavour and 2 minutes per wing (for the hottest flavour) for a total of ten minutes. This will progress starting off with a mild bbq to the hottest flavours available at Wing N’ It. The wing must completely be finished with no meat left on the bone to move on to the next wing (a properly eaten wing will be demonstrated). An allotted amount of Water/Milk will be provided for the competitors but will not be replenished. A waiver must be filled out to compete in this event.
First performances will start at 9:00pm, it is suggested that performers arrive 30 minutes beforehand to check-in. A maximum of THREE people prepare an 8 minute musical performance. No electric strings permitted. Handheld percussion are permitted including bongos, maracas, scrapers, tambourine. Pitched percussion including held snare drums are not permitted. Harmonicas and accordions permitted. See rubric for judging criteria. 19+ event.[1st – 15pts, 2nd – 10 pts, 3rd – 5 pts]
Thursday March 5-15:
A maximum of $75 must be spent on non-perishable food items which will later be donated to the campus food bank (receipts are required and necessary to participate in this event). A list of preferred items will be provided for purchase. The theme for each House will be drawn at the event itself and will relate to the overall Winter Carnival theme. Each House will be required to present their sculpture. See rubric for judging criteria. Possible themes for this event include: The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Bambi, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Lady and the Tramp, Beauty and the Beast, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Pocohontas and the Jungle Book. Event will start at 6:30pm SHARP at the UC.[1st – 10pts, 2nd – 7.5 pts, 3rd – 5 pts]
SIX people from each House prepare a musical performance of no more than 10 minutes. 1 point will be deducted for every 10 seconds over the time limit. See rubric for judging criteria. Friday March 6-15:
Each House must construct a poster/artistic piece with measurements not exceeding 5ft x 5ft on canvas/bristol board/etc. The poster must include two feature of Memorial University and one reason that illustrates the necessity of the tuition freeze (which will serve as the theme). The poster does not have to incorporate the Disney/Pixar theme. All banners must be submitted by 2:00pm SHARP at the Pool room in the Breezeway. Presentations will follow shortly thereafter. Houses must bake and decorate a cake that is relevant to Winter Carnival theme. Cake must not exceed measurements of 2ft x 2ft x 2ft. Cake must be 100% edible. Recipe and receipts must be presented at judging. No more than $75 is permitted to be spent on supplies. All cakes must be placed on the end of the House table by 6:00pm. Saturday March 7-15:
The Tuition Freeze Campus Race:
TWO people from each House will compete in a campus wide scavenger hunt. They will be expected to find scarves hidden across the campus and must relay the information found on each scarf to the coordinators (without the use of a cellular device) in the correct order. The teams should meet at the UC for 11am for their clues. The order of clues will be randomized for each House.

TEN people from each House are to prepare a performance of no longer than 10 minutes. Each house is permitted TWO off stage hands that must dress entirely in black. 1 point will be deducted for every 10 seconds over the time limit. Performances will start at 6:00pm SHARP. See rules and regulations for further clarification and judging criteria. The dimensions of the stage are 20ft X 32ft. 6ft x 6ft curtains in the back corners.[1st – 30pts, 2nd – 20 pts, 3rd – 10 pts]
